Fwd: South Valley Rotary Club 50 Mile Fun Run

Join us for the South Valley Rotary 50 mile Fun Ride
Dear President,
The South Valley Rotary club is planning a fun ride cycling event next month to help raise money as well as just enjoy getting out with other cyclists. This will be a no drop ride, which means we will do our best to keep everyone together throughout the ride. There will be a couple of drink and snack stops along the way as well as a meal at the end of the ride. What better way to get out and enjoy riding and each other’s company while helping to raise awareness and money for the End Polio Now campaign?
I am sending this email to you with the hope you can notify your club members that enjoy cycling and might be interested in joining us. I invite you to inform your members, and anyone else you know that loves to ride, of the event information below.
Please have all interested individuals in this event use the registration link below.
I appreciate your announcement of this event in advance and feel free to contact me with any questions.
YIRS (Yours In Rotary Service)

Steve Schoonover, a member of the South Valley Rotary club will be joining everyone on this day as part of his preparation for his upcoming participation in the Race Across America, better known as RAAM. He is part of a four-rider team called Team Rotary RAAMs Polio that represents all rotary Clubs from around the world participating in the Polio Plus campaign to eradicate Polio throughout the world. Come meet Steve and chat with him along the route as he talks about his involvement in last year’s race as well as the upcoming one this Summer. RAAM starts in Oceanside, CA and his team hopes to reach the finish in Annapolis, MD within 7 days. This route will travel approximately 3,000 miles during what has been called one of the toughest events in the world.
This local Fun Ride is being put on to help Team Rotary RAAMs Polio raise both awareness and donations through Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign to finally end polio across the world.
So come join other cyclists that love to ride and support this great cause.

Fwd: New RI Policy on Guns

PDG, AGs, Club Presidents, and District “All Star” Team Members,
Attached is a recent change of Policy regards Guns and Rotary.
I recently received a concerned call about the new Rotary Gun Policy from one of our members. As I have said, Rotary is more than 1.2 million people in 200 countries with high ethical standards that hope to create peace in our world through service to others. As a result of the global influence, many of the policies that we receive no longer come from just Evanston, Illinois, but input comes from all parts of our globe. In fact, as our numbers decline in North America, so does our influence; recently, we lost one director from the previous five, due to the loss of membership. Most of our Rotary friends in other parts of our world only know what they see on the news and tabloids about guns in the USA and much contradicts that of creating peace in our world. Therefore Rotary International has adopted a new policy regarding guns, gun shows, sport shooting event and guns use along with the Rotary Logo, where Rotary Clubs are involved.
Good or bad policy, that is up to you to decide, but I understand why they did what they have done but also understand why other may disagree. Rotary is a business, an international business, a not for profit business, but a business nonetheless. In the long term, I believe this will be good for business but not popular with many of our members. This policy does not affect your rights as Rotarians to own, use, shoot, buy or sell guns. It only limits what can be done, used and said when you are representing Rotary. I hope you understand. Rotary is an amazing tool to bring about positive and sustainable change in our world. It creates a save place for all to discuss their differences. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I look forward to seeing you soon at our District Conference.
Respectfully, yours is Rotary Service.

Hi Guys, We raise funds for our Viewmont Alumni Association at this tournament, and most of the funds go towards scholarships for one or two Viewmont students who have at least one family member who is a Viewmont alumnus (Parent, Grandparent, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin, Sibling). Would it be appropriate to send this out to our Rotary Club to at least make them aware of this opportunity? Let me know what you think. Doug Smith

Greetings,

The VHS Alumni Golf Outing for 2017 has been scheduled for July 28, 2017 with tee off at 8am. We will be playing again at Oakridge Country Club. The new construction has been totally completed, it is grown in and the course should be wonderful. The second week of July Oakridge will be the home of a PGA sponsored event, The Web.com tourney for that week. So the course should be in prime wonderful condition for our event. As always the registration fee includes the green fee, use of the driving range, the putting green, the chipping green, golf cart, lunch and other amenities that will be part of this fun event.

Register early, get a foursome together and come enjoy this event on one of the great courses in the State of Utah. Email me with any questions you may have.
